Zip Cars

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

So one of my spies sent me jpg of a grabshot taken on Lincoln en route to the subway this morning.  Okay, not real spy, but in fact my spouse.  Zip cars are being advertised, which means somewhere nearby.

It is an interesting business that many people I know have come to rely on.  Plus it isn’t a beauty related business, so Yay!

Looking at the Zip Car site, they have a location listing for:

580 Flatbush Ave
neighborhoods: Brooklyn - Flatbush
The Zipcar is located in the Ultra Car Park garage at 580 Flatbush Avenue.

I would have guessed Empire, but there you have it.   I have never noticed a car park there, not to say there is not (Google maps has it between Maple and Midwood).  I wonder if it is the car park behind Associated Market.

So the real question here follows: Is Zip Cars a sign of the G word?

Election, Brooklyn Style

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

At 7:55 this morning, not even a half an hour ago, I am following my usual daily routine. A cup of coffee and the Times, a quiet and gentle start to my day.

But today is Election Day in Flatbush. Already it has started. At 7:55 a.m., a dark blue van covered with campaign posters with Joel Toney’s name on them slowly drives down the street. With the loudspeaker blaring political spew that is extremely loud but totally inaudible.

I really loathe this carnival-like necessity some local politicians embrace to create attention. This is a tactic I have seen from Yvette Clarke too. It is disruptive, insulting, and if there was ever a chance I would have voted for you, Joel Toney, you can kiss it goodbye.

Activity at the Fireside

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

On 31 July, ATP posted a RIP to the Fireside, a Flatbush Ave restaurant that didn’t last very long.  Yesterday evening on my way home I noticed the gate on the former Fireside slightly raised and a certain amount of activity suggesting perhaps a little reno.

So are there any plans we know of for this place?  I almost always have my camera with me, so here is a pic.  Stack of tile to the right in the doorway, though not so easily seen here.  Something is going on.  We can only hope it will be of non-beauty genre and offer some appeal to the community.
